Joe Kilmade

Zac Ufnar

Second year volunteer Joe Kilmade is a 7th grade teacher and the athletic director. First year volunteer Zachary Ufnar teaches 6th-8th grade social studies and coaches.

Founded in the fall of 2004, San Miguel Tulsa serves a predominately working poor Hispanic population. Located at St. Francis Xavier Parish, San Miguel is the heart of the Hispanic community in Tulsa. The neighborhood is a vibrant and energetic place with many needs and numerous programs to meet these needs. Neighborhoods surrounding the parish exude signs of poverty – houses and apartments are dilapidated and vacant, people and dogs roam the streets, yards are dirty and not maintained, adult entertainment is present, and delinquent activity is noticeable.

Despite these blights, a recent gentrification is helping to improve the situation. San Miguel Tulsa was conceived in accordance with Catholic teachings on Social Justice. The new school has a special relationship with Bishop Kelly High School, a Lasallian High School in Tulsa. The Bishop Kelly High School Community has fully embraced San Miguel School as a school that is meeting the needs of their poor neighbors.

Lasallian Volunteers serve the San Miguel Tulsa Community as coordinators of the various enrichment programs; teach; work as a liaison between Bishop Kelly High School and San Miguel Tulsa; recruit other volunteers as tutors in the enrichment program; direct the service/experiential learning program; coordinate job shadowing days for students; assist with fieldtrips; and serve on students’ learning team.
