Lasallian Volunteers serve the San Juan Diego School Community as part-time teachers, tutors, and after-school program coordinators. Patrick Mecca teaches the fifth grade. Stephanie Sanchez is a teachers aide and coordinates the after school and evening mentoring programs. Argenis Rubio is a teachers aide for language arts and social studies and is the yearbook coordinator. All three are first year volunteers.

San Juan Diego is a fifth-eighth grade middle school which began in 2003. The school’s educational program is based on current research about the changing needs and interests of middle school students. It provides an extended day schedule, small classes, and a curriculum proven to be successful. Emphasis is placed on faith, community service, and leadership. There is an evening mentoring program. The school encourages parent participation and community partnerships.

Located in inner-city Racine, San Juan Diego provides a downtown learning environment. The school taps the resources of the neighborhood and city to enrich its curriculum. Its students come from low income surrounding neighborhoods.
