De La Salle High School, Minneapolis, seeks to create a future in which the youth of their urban area are empowered and enabled to create for themselves and others a functional, literate, safe community. Lasallian Volunteers serve the De La Salle High School Community as teachers, campus ministers, service learning coordinators, and tutors. There are no Volunteers serving at the school this year.

De La Salle High School is a diverse community of teachers, learners, alumni, parents, and volunteers. Their mission is to serve students from Minneapolis and surrounding communities who seek a high-quality, values-based, academic preparation for life. De La Salle fulfills this mission, in part, by respecting and affirming their heritage as a Catholic High School in the Lasallian tradition.
De La Salle High School, the only Catholic high school in the city of Minneapolis, has for more than a century sustained and advanced the educational vision defined more than 300 years ago by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Christian Brothers. As demonstrated by the unwavering and enthusiastic commitment to attract students from various economic levels, academic abilities, racial communities, and ethnic backgrounds, De La Salle High School extends beyond the facilitation of personal success to the preparation of students to be of service to the local, national, and global community both during and after their formal education.

Lasallian Volunteers serve the San Miguel School community as teacher, paraprofessional assistant, tutor, and after-school program staff. There are no Volunteers currently serving at San Miguel.

San Miguel Middle School provides a Lasallian education that empowers students to develop their full potential as rooted in their cultural story and created in God’s image. San Miguel was founded in 2000 by the Christian Brothers and lay volunteers and is located in south Minneapolis. It is designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who are not succeeding, providing them with a small, nurturing environment. The goal of San Miguel is to accelerate growth in basic skills of reading, writing, and math, while also teaching science, social studies, Spanish, physical education, and music. At the end of each day, students participate in Arts and Enrichment which gives them an opportunity to experience a wide variety of activities.

The students who attend San Miguel live in the Phillips neighborhood or in south Minneapolis. These are areas of drug and gang activity and relatively high poverty where immigrants are often taken advantage of. The student population is predominantly Latino and Spanish speaking. Many San Miguel parents/guardians are working several jobs at various times throughout the day. 91% of San Miguel students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
