Annabel Gallo

Lasallian volunteers are engaged in the school as 6th-8th grade teachers, coaches, and coordinators of after-school activities and special programs. First year volunteer Annabel Gallo serves the after school program, is an assistant teacher, and performs other duties.

The San Miguel School is an independent, alternative, Catholic middle school for boys. The school opened in the summer of 1997 in response to an initiative of the Baltimore Province of Christian Brothers to serve the economically disadvantaged more directly. The neighborhood has few other positive resources.

Through an innovative structure, the school serves students who have experienced social or academic difficulties in the usual school setting or who want a better academic climate. Students are primarily Latino, with some African-Americans and Asian-Americans. About one-fourth of them have diagnosed learning difficulties. The school strives to be community-oriented, inviting parents and families to join fully in the school community.
