Interested in having a
Lasallian Volunteer work with you?

The Lasallian Volunteer Program of the USA/Toronto Region of the De La Salle Christian Brothers provides dedicated, well-trained Volunteers for one or more years of service to schools and agencies of the Brothers whose Mission is to serve the poor.  Acting out of Faith, rooted in the Gospel, and sharing community with the Brothers and other Lasallians, the Volunteers empower the poor by personalized service primarily through education. Lasallian Volunteers change the world for the better and discover themselves transformed in the process.

The LV staff recruits and performs an initial screening for prospective Volunteers who are interested in serving full-time for one year in a Lasallian school or agency. We also place Volunteers in a limited number of non-Lasallian sponsored agencies that have a relationship with individual Christian Brothers or Lasallian Associates.

To qualify for a Lasallian Volunteer
for one year, a site must:

  • Have a primary Mission to provide direct services to economically poor or socially marginalized persons
  • A residence for the Volunteers that provides a faith-based intentional community experience that exists for the purpose of the local Mission
  • Provide the Volunteer with quality supervision and mentoring
  • Provide a specific job description in which the majority of the Volunteer's time is spent providing direct service
  • Complete an application process (similar to applying for a grant) through our national office

Be aware that there is a financial cost for a Lasallian Volunteer.
Generally speaking, the agency provides the cost of room and board, a modest monthly stipend, medical insurance, travel costs, and an assessment fee paid to the Lasallian Volunteer Program. These costs vary according to the local cost of living and local community expenses.
