A Celebration for Brother Ed

Brother Ed with bike!

The Highbridge Community Life Center family of Board, staff, former staff, friends and funders gathered on Wednesday, December 5 to honor Brother Ed Phelan who will retire as Executive Director at the end of the month. Included were 5 LVs and 9 Alums, most of whom served at Highbridge. Sr. Ellenrita will succeed Brother Ed as Director.

Under Brother Ed's 22-year leadership, Highbridge grew from a small outreach to a strong community-based organization. The evening included stories of Highbridge's empowerment of children and families, enriching this neighborhood of the Bronx for good.

Board Chair Michael Potack presented Brother Ed with an impressive bicycle for his new free time. We suspect that plans are already hatching in Brother Ed's head for the next grand “Tour.” Actually, we question how much “free time” Brother Ed will have. He plans to be more involved with our program and with fostering shared community across the country.

The LV Program will celebrate Ed this summer. Plans are underway, led by Colleen McGeehan, Amy Smith and Deb Carlson-Doom. Details coming soon.
