The 2007-2008 Lasallian Volunteers gathered along with 9 Brothers and 5 LV Alums for their Midyear Recommitment Retreat. Brother Bud Knight of the Baltimore District invited participants for a weekend to
SEE WITH THE HEART.
See students, ministry, community, and self as God sees.
See good times and successes, struggles and failures,
See ordinary ups and downs of the school day, discovering new dimensions, all with eyes of Faith.

The weekend included journaling, sharing, praying, enjoying the company of the other volunteers & Brothers, celebrating, as well as recommitting. All attention was focused on returning to ministries, re-engaging in mission, fortified by the group, bolstered by the vision, with hearts burning.

What Brothers Had to Say

I don’t know what the future holds for me. I don’t know in the next couple what will happen. But right now I can’t imagine or envisage not living in a community without volunteers.
Br. Mike Farrell

I am just so happy and my only regret is that I didn’t get involved (in mixed communities) sooner.
Br. Michael Reis

Stay connected, invited us to the weddings and baptism. Stay connected, if you possibly can. And thank you for all you do for us.
Br. Ed Phelan

When I think back to Vatican II, there was a vision of the importance of the Laity in the Church and I used to ask myself how is this will work in reality.
This is how it is working in reality... It’s really beautiful. We are happy to have you in our communities. It is a pleasure.
Br. Leo Smith
What LVs Had to Say

I’ve learned so much from living in community with the Brothers. It’s really opened my mind to the
world.
Sara Vogelpohl

What I learned is that you need to be open to change, whether it is change on a daily basis, or change of lesson plans, or change in the long run. I had a job at the beginning of the year that is not
my job now. Our mission is not written down in a contract: today I will change five hearts and four
minds. It is an on-going thing. You have to be willing to just let the mission take over and do what
is in your capacity.
Joe Kilmade

You can lose that (spirit) as you get pushed along through every single day the same stuff. Getting
up early, praying, work, coming home. But when you come back here, you realize, at least for me,
the feeling in the group, the feeling from Orientation: Wow! The cool group of people. This is why you are doing it!
Joe Kolar

Midyear: Rediscovering why I joined this organiza-
tion. It’s amazing to come together. I feed off that
energy.
Zachary Ufnar

It is moments like coming together like this that I
remember that it is so much bigger than me working at Loughlin. I really need to be reminded how
wonderful and amazing this Lasallian community is,
that we can help kids through education, through
presence, through love. I am constantly reminded of
it but we need moments like this.
